If you live in US and have been solar cooking for at least 18 months, and are interested in being a solar cooking survey respondent, please email me at Natalia Blackburn for how to become involved.
I have been an active solar cook in the Sacramento, California area for 10 years and have been an energy engineer for more than 20 years. I have taken on an independent project to survey solar cooking in the USA. My purpose is to fill the hole in the national consciousness as to solar cooking’s potential for saving energy. I was hoping you could help me improve the results of the survey.
I know that many of us solar cook, not because we save tons of money, but because it’s the right thing to do; however, utility companies and governmental agencies do not necessarily operate from the same set of values. In the last decade, we have witnessed acceptance of new more efficient products such as compact fluorescent lights which save very little for each individual household, but have their impact on the larger scale as more and more households participate. And solar cooking is another “emerging technology” that begins to makes sense monetarily especially on the larger scale. This is where our values and utility company values share common ground.
I am searching for survey participants. The survey is conducted in person, over the phone, or may be sent via emailed; and is 25 questions, taking about 15 minutes. It is set-up to align with RECS, Residential Energy Consumption Survey, a well-regarded triennial national survey conducted by the federal government.
I could really use your help if you are willing to take the survey.
