Anyone tried popcorn?!

I was looking around on this website, but it’s not possible to do an article search. I’m looking for articles and/or information about popping popcorn in a solar oven. Has anyone tried this? Does it work? I feel like it would work, if I could get at least half a day of direct sun. Maybe this is something I should shelve until summer. In the meantime, if anyone has tried it or can give me some tips and tricks for popcorn, I would appreciate it!

That was a funny post! I can just imagine you scurrying around to rescue popped kernels!

I don't have a parabolic cooker, but I plan on trying it with the box cooker. I'm not sure heating the oil first and then putting in the popcorn would work because all the heat would escape when I opened it back up. Don't you think?

Pop Corn

Yes, you can pop corn easily with a parabolic style cooker. I have made several using an old Dish network dish and covering it with reflective foil. Simply mount a small pan at the focal point and knock yourself out. It also makes for great exercise trying to corral all of the popping corn as they fly all over. I put a good grade canola oil in the pan, get it hot and then drop in the kernels. Works just fine.
I have not tried it in a box style cooker, but I would imagine if you put some oil in a black pan and heated it well before dropping in the corn, it would work fine also. Plus you could confine the popped corn :-)
